How Does it Work?

Wrinkle Reduction Therapy will make room for new healthy cells by either taking a fractional approach to laser resurfacing, stimulating collagen by heating up tissue or restoring normal dermal functionality, which results in improved skin tone and texture including fewer wrinkles.

To get technical, a wrinkle reduction procedure consists of a laser or light source delivering energy to various chromophores (colored bodies)  like melanin, blood with or without oxygen, or water at varying skin depths. Depending on the device used and delivery settings, chromophore targeting may:

• ablate, or remove, and coagulate micro columns of the skin
  

• ablate and coagulate 20 to 1,500 microns of outer layers of skin

• stimulate collagen production through partial denaturation of the dermis

Patient Experience

A Wrinkle Reduction Therapy procedure usually takes about an hour. The pulses of energy are relatively painless, and any slight discomfort usually subsides within seconds. Depending on your skin type and current degree of skin health, three to eight treatments spaced three to four weeks apart may be recommended for best results. Redness immediately after the procedure usually fades within hours.

Recovery time depends on technology used and treatment strength chosen. Gemini^® and SkinTyte™ treatments usually require no downtime, the healing following ProFractional™ treatments usually causes swelling for two to three days and redness for 10 days to two weeks (makeup can be used to mask redness), Aurora requires minimal recovery time, and Portrait^® PSR may require up to two to five days.

What are the characteristics of a good candidate for Wrinkle Reduction Therapy?

If you are concerned about skin texture including wrinkles, pore size, or fine lines, you are probably a good candidate for Wrinkle Reduction Therapy. Nearly everyone is a candidate as everyone undergoes the natural aging process. A wide variety of skin types can be treated; however, due to high affinity to melanin that exists in dark or tan skin, laser treatments may not be advisable on certain skin types.

Is Wrinkle Reduction Therapy safe?

All of the Wrinkle Reduction Therapy procedures offered at Hotchandani Laser & Vein Center have demonstrated excellent safety profiles in clinical trials. The most common side effects involve redness and swelling, and rarely pigmentation changes but clients usually experience complete correction back to normal in due time.

Are Wrinkle Reduction Therapy treatments painful?

Most patients feel minimal discomfort during the procedure itself. Pulses feel like a tingling sensation or pinch, and a topical anesthetic is made available for those with a low threshold for pain. Post-procedure discomfort may feel like sunburn, and may be remedied with over-the-counter pain medication as recommended.

What is the recovery time I should expect?

If you have a Gemini® or SkinTyte™ treatment you will be able to resume normal activities immediately. ProFractional™ treatments usually cause swelling for two to three days and redness for 10 days to two weeks (makeup can be used to mask redness), Aurora® requires minimal recovery time, and Portrait® PSR requires two to five days of recovery time. Immediately following treatment, the skin is normally slightly red for a few hours and could be swollen for up to 48 hours.

How can I improve and maintain results?

Following your scheduled treatment regimen, it may be recommended to do maintenance treatments periodically. Longevity of results will improve if you take care to use sunscreen when in the sun, avoid tanning beds, and minimize other activities like smoking that will damage your skin.
