What to Expect

Results of your filler treatment will be evident immediately and last at least four months and could last much longer depending on which fillers you select. ArteFill^® is the longest lasting filler available with results lasting for over five years and an average of eight years in clinical trials. Radiesse^® is the second longest lasting with longevity of at least a year in restoring a natural, youthful look, and Radiesse^® also helps generate new collagen formation. Filled lines and folds will gradually atrophy to their pretreated appearance as filler materials themselves break down and additional aging occurs.

How Does it Work?

The procedure consists of one or more injectable gels being gently eased into the dermis near the subcutaneous layer via injections that then support the space between collagen and elastin fibers. The amount of gel injected and careful selection of which types of fillers are used will help get the results you desire. Patient Experience

Dermal filler procedures usually take less than 30 minutes. The injections are relatively painless and can be compared to receiving a tetanus shot or donating blood, and any slight discomfort usually subsides within seconds. Sensitivity and feeling in treatment areas are completely retained, and any minor swelling from the injections typically disappears within 24 hours. Most clients are able to return to normal activities immediately after the procedure.

Are dermal fillers safe?

In years of rigorous clinical testing and use by millions of patients worldwide, dermal fillers have been proven to be safe and effective. First generation dermal fillers and ArteFill®, which include bovine derived collagen, require an allergy test to reduce the risk of any allergic reaction. Your provider will also ask you a series of questions to determine if fillers will work for you.

Are dermal filler injections painful?

Most patients feel minimal discomfort during the procedure itself. Injections feel like a small pin prick.

What is the recovery time I should expect?

You may resume all normal activities immediately, though patients should refrain from strenuous exercise for a day. Any minor swelling from the injections typically disappears within 24 hours and some patients experience dramatic reduction of swelling within hours.

What if I am taking medication?

Inform your provider if you use blood thinners, ibuprofen, aspirin or herbal preparations and other medications prior to your procedure. You may need to discontinue certain other nutritional supplements a few days prior to treatment.

Do dermal filler injections leave scars?

No. However, if you are prone to thick hypertrophic scarring formation or excessive keloid scarring, you may not be a good candidate for treatment with dermal fillers.
