What to Expect
Results of your BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments will be evident within 2-7 days of your treatment. The appearance of your unwanted lines will fade and improve over time. Results last three to six months after a single procedure, and overactive muscle activity will eventually return causing lines to gradually revert to their pretreated appearance. If you do not continue receiving BOTOX®, treatment areas will eventually look the way they did before treatment. How Does it Work?
The procedure consists of injections of very small doses of botulinum toxin type A, which is one of the most widely researched medicines in the world, into chosen facial muscles resulting in the blockage of chemical signals that cause unwanted muscle contraction. Treatment is simple, nonsurgical and smoothes the deep, persistent lines between your brows that develop over time. It generally remains only in the treated muscle and gradually disappears without breaking down or traveling throughout the body.
Patient Experience
A BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure usually takes less than 20 minutes. The only facial expression you will eliminate is the unintentional frown caused by the overactive muscles between your brows. The injections are very quick and almost painless, and any slight discomfort subsides within seconds (usually less than 5 seconds).
You may return to normal activities immediately after BOTOX® Cosmetic procedures. Limiting physical activity including bending and avoiding exposure to heat for two hours after treatment may prevent unwanted diffusion, but is not required.
Will I be able to make facial expressions – what if certain expressions are extremely important for me?
You will still be able to frown and look surprised, but without the wrinkles and creases between your brows. We have successfully treated many professionals whose most subtle expressions are extremely important for them at work. The expertise of your injector can make a difference, with potential side effects including a temporary eyelid droop, which is extremely rare. Are BOTOX® Cosmetic injections painful?
Most patients feel minimal discomfort during the procedure itself. Injections feel like a small pin prick.
What is the recovery time I should expect?
You may resume all activities normal immediately, though should refrain from strenuous exercise for a day and refrain from massage or pressure to the treated area for two days. If you think you are having any unusual symptoms, do not hesitate to contact us.
Have patients been happy with their results?
According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, BOTOX® Cosmetic was the most popular physician administered cosmetic procedure in the US since 2001. In a survey conducted by the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation, 97% of respondents said they were satisfied with the results of their BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment (79% of which said “Yes, definitely”).
Is BOTOX® Cosmetic safe?
BOTOX® remains one of the most widely studied medications in history. The FDA cleared BOTOX® for use in cosmetic procedures in the US in 2002, and additional clinical studies are underway to expand approved indications. The most common side effects are a temporary eyelid droop and nausea albeit very rare. We have some of the most experienced injectors and while we do not particularly enjoy revising other less experienced practitioner's work due to the added complexity, we have fixed "spock eye" and other affectionately named expressions.
